Built in 1803 as the Sheriff Court, the building where Sir Walter Scott, author of such classics as The Heart of Midlothian and Rob Roy, dispensed justice to the people of Selkirkshire. Between the years of 1811 – 1814 Selkirk housed a group of prisoners from Napoleon’s army. The strange and fascinating story of the ‘French Prisoners’ is here retold by the Selkirk Antiquarians, bringing it up to date with a focus on the way the stories have passed into local folklore.

Bellendean! – Scott Family Homecoming
To mark the first ever international gathering of Clan Scott at its ancestral home, Bowhill, this is a brief look into the history of one of the most important families in the Scottish Borders – the Scott’s of Buccleuch. The display spans the early medieval roots, through the reiving times to the modern era.
