About this attraction
Children love the interactive displays, which are both educational and fun. There are video games, crawling spaces where they can pretend to be a salmon fry, a life size salmon beanbag and colourful images and text to enhance their experience.
A short walk from the centre brings you to the Cauld where you can spot mature salmon literally leaping out of the water, as they make their way back up stream to sporn. Best time to see salmon leaping: August - November.
The 'Waterwheel' restaurant (OPEN 10.00 am-4.00 pm) offers a wide range of delicious home made meals, snacks and refreshments.
The working walled garden is open all year for seasonal vegetables and fruits, plus bedding plants, hanging baskets and houseplants.
Philiphaugh Estate has a wide range of walks to suite all the family - riverside, mature woodland and heath. We have an abundance of wildlife that shouldn't be too hard to spot if you are quiet. You'll find: otters, badgers, roe deer, red squirrel, foxes, adders, kingfishers, heron, eagle owls, weasels, bats, hares and woodpeckers, to name just a few!
Our fascinating, fully restored water wheel can be seen daily beside the sawmill. Children love collecting the images from the Brass Rubbing Trail - pick up a free crayon and paper from the Salmon Centre and see how many you can find....
