Mellerstain House

The Mellerstain Trust, Mellerstain House, Gordon, Berwickshire, TD3 6LG

About this attraction

The formal terraces, lawns and ornamental lake with a backdrop to the distant Cheviot Hills were designed to be viewed from the rooms and corridors planned and decorated with the ingenuity of Robert Adam. Collections of paintings, books and manuscripts, fine furnishings and personal effects offer the visitor a glimpse into the daily life of an 18th century Scottish country mansion.

George Baillie purchased Mellerstain Estate in 1642 and it has been the family home of the Baillie’s and Hamilton’s ever since. The long tradition as a family home is continued to the present day and the Earl and Countess of Haddington welcome you to Mellerstain House. Our guides are rich with the knowledge of the history of the house and family and we look forward to sharing it with you.
