About this attraction
Bowhill House & Country Estate
When summer smiled on sweet Bowhill
Sir Walter Scott wrote these words about Bowhill and though many summers have shone and gone since those dreamy days, the sweetness of the landscape remains and is only enhanced by the variety of activities on offer.
The Scottish Borders home of the Duke of Buccleuch displays an outstanding art collection. Bowhill’s magnificent woodlands offer a variety of peaceful walks for people of all ages and abilities, from those wanting a gentle stroll to those seeking a more strenuous challenge. Moreover, visitors can always try the Adventure Playground, a firm favourite with children of all ages. In addition, over the summer Bowhill Ranger Service offers a series of crafts and activities for families and adults.
The Courtyard also has a range of interesting things to do and see from our James Hogg Exhibition, Victorian Kitchen, Visitor Centre and Courtyard games, to our gift shop and Minstrel Tearoom. Bowhill also hosts an intimate 72-seater theatre transformed from the old Victorian Game Larder, with s a varied programme of music and drama all year round.
This September also sees the first ever international gathering of Clan Scott at its ancestral home, Bowhill.
