Border Textiles – past, present and future
A new and exciting experience is coming to the Scottish Borders in April 2009.The heritage and the future of Scotland’s premier textile manufacturing region is presented within a beautifully – restored 16th Century Tower House. People, processes, products – from virgin wool to Vivienne Westwood. Border Knitwear and tweeds have been adopted by the whole world – come and explore the unfinished story!Textiles have been, and still are, very important to the Borders.The Textile Towerhouse explores themes in vibrant and exciting displays and will look at the people who formed and developed the industry; the processes for making the tweed and knitwear for which the areas is famous; and the products which have been made (and are still being made) since the industry began.Celebrate the world wide reputation of the Scottish Borders product.
Whats coming to the Borders Textile Tower?
We are going to be displaying objects, photographs, film and archive material from the collections held by SBC.
There will be lots of hands-on and creative activities to enliven your visit.
We will be showcasing the beautiful products made in the Borders – from niche designers to large manufacturers.
There will also be exhibitions and a regular programme of events and activities.
The Towerhouse will also be home to Hawicks Registrar - and you will be able to organise your wedding ceremony or civil ceremony.
