About this attraction

The Borders Family History Society promotes and encourages an interest in family history in the four historical counties that comprise the Scottish Borders:

Berwickshire

Peeblesshire

Roxburghshire

Selkirkshire

In unsettled times some Borderers found it expedient to move between Scotland & England to avoid officialdom. The pattern of agricultural employment also meant that our ancestors did not stay in one place for all their lives. Because of this the Society takes an interest in the neighbouring counties in Scotland & England.

The Borders Family History Society aims to assist those who are pursuing family history research in the Borders. The Society does this by:

Holding regular meetings which are free and open to the public.

Publishing a quarterly journal

Maintaining a library of books, microfiche, microfilms, CDs and family trees

Opening our Archive and Search Room to the public

The Borders Family History Society collaborates with Hawick Hub to transcribe and index some of their records. The Society also has an extensive programme to record the inscriptions on gravestones before weather and pollution renders them unreadable.
