About this attraction
Our primary aim is to promote interest in local and national heritage and history by the interpretation of the past from the archaeological and written evidence that has survived. We wish to present a picture of how people lived, worked, fought and played during all periods of Scottish history, and by presenting the historical details we aim to enable people to come away with an impression and feeling for what life was like at the time, and how this compares to the life they live today. Whilst it can never be an exact and 100% true interpretation of the past, we aim to ensure we are as close as possible
By presenting the historical details from any particular event, we can look at the problems posed by political and religious conflict and the consequences of political, racial, and religious persecution, and use the historical, political and religious background to promote better understanding and tolerance between all groups of citizens, regardless of age, ethnic origin, ability or belief, and help youngsters to recognise the value of our many differences.
For this Homecoming year of 2009, we will be focussing on the 16th and 17th Centuries in the Borders and will therefore be concentrating on Reiver history with the aim of dispelling the myths that have crept into our current views of this period
